Fidel´s letter to Alexis Tsipras, Prime Minister of Greece

H.E. Alexis Tsipras

Prime Minister of Greece:

I warmly congratulate youon your brilliant political victory, the details of which I followed closely on Telesur channel.

Cubans are very familiar with Greece. It taught us about Ancient Philosophy, Art and Science when we studied in school and, with them, the most complex of all human activities: the art and science of politics.

Your country, especially its courage in the current circumstances, arouses admiration among the LatinAmerican and Caribbean peoples of this hemisphere by witnessing how Greece, against external aggressions, defends its identity and culture. Nor it is forgotten that one year after Hitler’s attack onPoland, Mussolini ordered his troops to invade Greece, and that brave country repelled the aggression and had invaders retreat, which led to deploy German armoured units towards Greece, deviating from the original target.

Cuba knows the value and fighting capacity of Russian troops, which together with the forces of their powerful ally the People’s Republic of China, and other nations from the Middle East and Asia, will always try to avoid a war, but will never allow any military aggression without a resounding and devastating response.

In the world’scurrent political situation, where peace and survival of our species hang by a thread, every decision, more than ever, should be carefully made and implemented, so that no one can doubt of the honesty and seriousness with which many of the most responsible and serious leaders struggle today to face the scourges that threaten the world.

We wish you, esteemed comrade Alexis Tsipras, the greatest success.

Sincerely,

Fidel Castro Ruz
