Biocubafarma strengthens ties with Cuban university

The international recognition of the teaching staff and several research fields have strengthened ties between both institutions whose special mediator is the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) in Cuba’s largest province.

At the meeting among executives of these institutions, Biocubafarma Director Eduardo Martinez praised the breakthroughs and contributions from this university, whose studies have been crucial in the production of medicines against swine fever and sea slice, or the production of bionematicide HeberNem by the CIGB.

Biocubafarma, which grosses over 180 million dollars a year for Cuba, according to Martinez, with plants in several countries and commercial windows with some 50 nations, relies on Cuban universities “thanks to their research potential.”

A total of 110 production lines, which directly target the health and agriculture sectors, stand out among the products of Biocubafarma, whose work has been acknowledged by the World Health Organization (WHO), especially regarding Cuba’s homegrown Covid-19 vaccines.
