Nicaraguans to Celebrate Birthdays of Fidel Castro and Tomas Borge

Nicaraguan youths will hold several events to celebrate the 89th birthday of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and the 85th birthday of FSLN founder Tomas Borge on August 13.
 
According to the program prepared by the Sandinista Youth and published today on local media, the poetry recital "With Love for Tomas" will be held next Tuesday to pay tribute to the founder of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), who died in 2012.
 

Latin American and Caribbean Brigade Demands Lifting of U.S. Blockade of Cuba

Activists with the Latin American and Caribbean Brigade of solidarity with Cuba demanded the immediate lifting of the economic blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean island.
 
During a ceremony celebrated Thursday at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp in the province of Artemisa, the 170 brigade members from 13 countries issued a final declaration expressing their rejection of the U.S. economic sanctions.

Cuban Hero Attends Ceremony for 70th Anniversary of Hiroshima Bombing

Fernando Gonzalez, vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, participated on Thursday in a commemorative event in Hiroshima for the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of that Japanese city.
 
A statement released by the Caribbean island's embassy in the Japanese capital says Gonzalez represented Havana in the official ceremony.
 

Cuban Young People to Celebrate Fidel Castro's 89th Birthday

A photo exhibit and a concert are included in a number of activities organized by Cuban youngsters to celebrate the 89th birthday of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro –- commemorated on August 13th.
 
According to the secretary general of Cuba's Young Communist League (UJC), Roberto Conde, the activities will begin on August 10th, with the opening of a photo exhibit on Fidel Castro at the headquarters of the Juventud Rebelde newspaper.
 

Cuba and Russia to Strengthen Relations Through Cultural Events

The Russian embassy in Cuba has announced several cultural activities to give continuity to the celebration this year of the 55th anniversary of the restoration of relations between the two countries.

Bolivian President Evo Morales Calls for Lifting U.S. Blockade of Cuba

Bolivian President Evo Morales has called for the lifting of the U.S. blockade against Cuba imposed for over 50 years and for the return of the illegally occupied Guantanamo Naval Base.
 
At a press conference in the Government Palace in La Paz, the Bolivian president said that the process to re-establish relations between Cuba and the United States is a resounding victory of the people and the Cuban Revolution. And he added: "We hope that President Barack Obama lifts the economic blockade and returns the Guantanamo Bay.”
 

Cuba and Germany Strengthen Ties at International Festival for Peace

The 11th International Festival for Peace, as every year, is celebrated in the northern German town of Graal-Müritz. The festival called for the renovation of the bonds of friendship between the peoples of both nations -- Cuba and Germany.
 
The official website of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the event brought together figures from the German political and social scene, and was also attended by Cuban Ambassador in Berlin, René Juan Mujica.
