Cuban President Raul Castro Meets with Colombian Peace Negotiators

Cuban President Raul Castro met on Sunday evening with peace negotiators, representing the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP).
 
According to this morning's edition of Granma newspaper, the exchange took place in a constructive environment, marked by the shared interest of continuing the talks until a final peace accord is reached in the shortest possible time.
 

Cuba to Promote Caribbean Links from Presidency in ACS

Cuba will continue promoting the revitalization of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) as a regional organization for consultation, cooperation and concerted actions, when it assumes the rotating presidency, the Foreign Ministry stated today.
 
The deputy general director of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Zamora stated that the appointment of the Cuba to hold office from 2016 reflects the high level of Cuba's ties with its neighbors and commitment to the region's countries.
 

Cuba: 50th Anniversary of OSPAAL Commemorated

With a central activity in a hotel of the capital hotel, Cuba will celebrate today the 50th anniversary of the Tricontinental Conference and the constitution of the OSPAAAL Thursday.
The rememoration will be in the same place in which it took place between January 3 and 14, 1966, the meeting that united the historical leaders of the revolutionary movements and of national liberation of that time.

Work of Art by Cuban Visual Artist to be Moved to Lampedusa

The work of art ''Milagro'' by Cuban artist Alexis Leyva (Kcho), gifted by President Raul Castro to Pope Francis in September, will be moved to the Italian island of Lampedusa, according to a note released today.
 
Presented as a gift to the Pope on his visit to the Cuba, the work of art was originally placed in the Church of the Holy Cross in Agrigento, Sicily, and on January 17 will be moved to the largest of the Italian Pelagie islands.
 

Relevance of José Martí’s ideas reaffirmed

Organizers of a second international conference on the ideas of José Martí are emphasizing the continuing relevance of the Cuban national hero’s ethics, which will be the focus of debate and analysis by intellectuals from 44 countries at the upcoming event.
 
Héctor Hernández Pardo, deputy director of the Martí Project Office, announced in a press conference that, to date, 400 international delegates and 200 Cubans have confirmed their participation in the conference co-sponsored by UNESCO, scheduled for January 25-28.

Unilever Suchel S.A. joint venture established in Mariel Special Development Zone

The creation of the Unilever Suchel S.A. joint venture, which will operate in the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM), was reported yesterday during a ceremony held at this strategic location for the development of Cuba’s economy.
 
The ceremony was led by Ana Teresa Igarza, director general of the ZEDM Office, and Lilianne Ploumen, minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in addition to Pedro Fraga and Fabio Prado, presidents of Intersuchel S.A. and Unilever Mexico & Caribbean, respectively.
 

Cuban heroine Celia Sánchez Manduley honored

The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) paid tribute to Celia Sánchez Manduley, yesterday January 11 in Havana, on the 36th anniversary of her death.
 
During the event held at the monument to the heroine of the Sierra and the underground, Teresa Amarelle, secretary general of the FMC and member of the Party Central Committee, emphasized the contributions of Celia, whose values and efforts constitute an example for Cuban girls, adolescents and women of today.
 

Díaz-Canel meets German Deputy Foreign Minister

First Vice President of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, yesterday January 7, meet with the honorable Sigmar Gabriel, Germany’s deputy foreign minister and minister of Economy and Energy, who is making an official visit to the country.
 
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed their commitment to continue working on strengthening bilateral relations, and increasing economic-commercial, cultural, scientific and educational ties.
 

Díaz-Canel visits central province

The importance of linking agricultural production with proper distribution as a means to counter the current high prices in the sector, was highlighted yesterday by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, a member of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee and first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers.
